PRESS: Experts see hackers massively using popular brands
MOSCOW, Oct 26 (PRIME) -- Multiple domains using popular brands in their names are getting registered in the Runet, the Russian-speaking Internet segment, through a single entity with servers in Belize, business daily Kommersant reported on Monday, quoting Infosecurity a Softline company.
Such domains often use the -off ending, which can hint at sellouts, like familiya-off.ru, detskiy-mir-off.ru, tele2-off.ru, rosneft-off.ru, citilink-off.ru, the experts said.
On October 20, threat revealing service Ethic registered 192 such domain names, head of the special services division at Infosecurity Sergei Trukhachyov told the daily.
All the domains are registered via the same Russian firm-registrar and use the servers located on technical sites of firm Ispiria in Belize. The firm is often engaged for hosting of phishing or other malicious sites, according to Infosecurity.
Total expenses of a buyer of the domains may count tens of thousands of rubles, because registration of one domain name costs 199 rubles as a rule, Trukhachyov said, adding that the owner would most likely start monetizing them soon through phishing, for example.
